KNH has turned 115 years and it had its Centenary Celebration in 2001. The Hospital was built to fulfill the role of being a National Referral and Teaching Hospital, as well as to provide medical research environment. Established in 1901 with a bed capacity of 40, KNH became a State Corporation in 1987 with a Board of Management and is at the apex of the referral system in the Health Sector in Kenya. It covers an area of 45.7 hectares and within the KNH complex are College of Health Sciences (University of Nairobi); the Kenya Medical Training College; Kenya Medical Research Institute and National Laboratory Service (Ministry of Health). KNH has 50 wards, 22out-patient clinics, 24 theaters (16 specialized) and Accident & Emergency Department. Out of the total bed capacity of 1800, 209 beds are for the Private Wing. Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi is the oldest hospital in Kenya. Founded in 1901 with a bed capacity of 40 as the Native Civil hospital, it was renamed the King George VI in 1952. At that time the settler community were served by the nearby European Hospital (now Nairobi Hospital). It was renamed Kenyatta National Hospital - after Jomo Kenyatta - following independence from the British. It is currently the largest referral and teaching hospital in the country. Kenyatta National Hospital has a capacity of 1800 beds and has over 6000 staff members. It covers an area of 45.7 hectares. The University of Nairobi Medical School, and several government agencies are located on the campus.Position Summary We are seeking Data Entry Officers to support data management and evaluation efforts for the AMANI Study in selected counties. The officers will be responsible for timely, accurate, and high-quality data entry into electronic data capture (EDC) systems. They will also assist with data abstraction, verification, and documentation in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GC Key Responsibilities Abstract data from routine health records such as: Birth registers Mortality registers MPDSR committee meeting forms Surveys with facility administrators and healthcare workers Qualitative records and logs maintained by Practice Facilitators Accurately enter data into EDC platforms (e.g., REDCap, ODK) within defined timelines. Perform double data entry and validation checks to ensure consistency and minimize errors. Identify, flag, and escalate data inconsistencies or missing information to the Senior Data Analyst. Ensure secure storage, backup, and maintenance of data management documents in line with study SOPs. Maintain detailed logs of data entry activities, queries raised, and resolutions provided. Review and resolve data queries raised during quality control reviews. Liaise with field staff (e.g., nurses, clinicians, facilitators) to clarify and verify source data discrepancies. Participate in data quality assurance activities, including team reviews and refresher trainings. Ensure all data entry activities comply with the protocol, SOPs, GCP, and ethical guidelines. Promptly report any issues affecting data quality or workflow to the Senior Data Analyst. Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health Records, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related field. At least 1 year of experience in research data entry or health records management (required). Up to date Good clinical practice (GCP) Certificate Hands-on experience with electronic data capture systems such as REDCap or ODK (mandatory). Familiarity with clinical research procedures, documentation, and terminology. Key Skills and Attributes Fast and accurate typing and data entry skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify data inconsistencies. Strong organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and EDC platforms. High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support coordination with study teams. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary setting. Commitment to following established protocols, SOPs, and regulatory requirements. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully with diverse teams and study populations. Working Conditions Full-time position based in Kisumu County with frequent travel to facilities in different counties within the Western region (Kakamega, Homabay, Kisii, Siaya, Migori, Busia, Nyamira & Vihiga) May involve movement between healthcare facilities and field sites. Occasional extended hours may be required to meet data entry and reporting deadlines. Role involves prolonged periods of computer-based work. Strict adherence to GCP and institutional data protection guidelines is required when handling participant data.
